The Frankenfire Four - Burning the Midnight Oil

from Frankensong 2020 by Frankensong

about

The process started with Scott as Layer #1, creating a couple downtempo beats (at 120bpm) and adding delay to the seed track. Steven was Layer #2, recording a mostly running arpeggiated accompaniment “line” with an occasional marimba melody and chord “stabs”. Mike was Layer #3, with the sax designed to provide melodic interest. Mick was Layer #4, with his town’s annual alarm test starting and ending the song, while “Sister Emphysema”, his trusty convent harmonium, filled in the lower mid-range, the tiny baglamas adding to the general unsettling feeling and his ominous spoken word part setting the song title in motion. Scott did the overall mixdown and production, balancing the parts and putting together the finishing touches.
